If you’ve ever walked through the Moroccan Pavilion at EPCOT, you’ve felt it—that transportive magic of vibrant colors, intricate geometric patterns, and the soul of Morocco right in the heart of Orlando. But few realize the monumental effort required to bring that authenticity to life.
For Mr.Ali Benlemlih, the founder of MoresqueArts, the story began in 1984.
At the time, Ali was a young artist on a mission, overseeing the arrival of massive containers filled with hand-carved Zellige tiles. It wasn't just a delivery; it was a cultural bridge. Ali brought a team of master craftsmen across the ocean to ensure every single tile was laid with the mathematical precision and artistic soul this ancient craft demands.
This is indeed Ali in the photo from over 40 years ago! It was a time of sawdust, sweat, and the incredible pride of watching the first major expansion of EPCOT come to life through the heritage of Moroccan Zellige.
